A Sense of Freedom. An Autobiography

Boyle, Jimmy

£40.00

1st Edition

Yellow cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Dust jacket has some foxing to reverse. Otherwise fine/fine: a tight, square and clean copy. INSCRIBED by the author to title page: ‘To Tim, with best wishes -‘ *** Labeled ‘Scotland’s Most Violent Man’ by the Scottish press when he was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1967. In 1973 Boyle was moved to a Special Unit set up in an attempt to rehabilitate the most dangerous criminals in the Scottish system. Here he wrote his autobiography A Sense of Freedom which became a bestseller and a film. It was republished in 2017 with a foreword by Irvine Welsh. An important book that led to better understanding of prison life and reform of the prison system. It is also a cracking good read about the underbelly of Glasgow and criminal life in the 1960s (the times of the Kray Brothers, whom Boyle briefly hung out with while trying to escape the Scottish police).
