Book is in near fine condition with just the slightest foxing to top-edge and corners a little scuffed. Dust jacket is rubbed and slightly chipped with minor loss to head of spine and lower fold. *** A stunning monograph on the Dutch artist Karel Appel (1921-2006), printed on different types of paper. 22 tipped-in colour plates on thick black paper, several drawings on thick blue and red paper and a number of glassine sheets with fragments of text. With photographs by Ed van der Elsken. Illustrated throughout. ***  Text (in English) by Hugo Claus (1929 -2008), who is one of Belgium’s best-known writers. His writing is insightful and poetic. Appel and Claus are a great match and the publisher has created an astonishing piece of work.
