First edition of Haruki Murakami’s first book to be published in English language abroad. Publisher’s original half cloth boards with silver lettering to spine. A very good copy in a near fine dust jacket. Foxing to edges of text blocky (notably top edge) and discreet embossed private library stamp at bottom corner of front free endpaper. Small dent to head of upper board. *** A Wild Sheep Chase was published in Japanese in 1982, and this English language translation by Alfred Birnbaum appeared seven years later. It followed Hear the Wind Sing (1979) and Pinball, 1973 (1980). English translations of these first two books (resp. 1987 and 1985) were published exclusively in Japan by Kodansha under their Kodansha English Library branding, for English Foreign Language learners.
