First edition. Red cloth with gilt to spine. In dust jacket (designed by John Sewell). 158pp. Slight toning and rubbing to jacket. Sticker damage to front flap, obscuring the original price. A near fine copy. *** Eva Tucker (1929-2015) was a highly regarded figure on the literary scene of the 1960s. After two experimental novels, Contact (1966) and Drowning (1969), she stopped publishing until a successful comeback almost forty years later. Her first two novels (never reprinted) are scarce. Contact showed her as a hugely talented author. The setting is a weekend party with a bunch of friends, thrown by a young couple in their country home. It’s reminiscent of early Updike, with well-drawn characters and small, personal dramas.
