1st UK. Black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Unmarked and clean, binding tight and square. Dust jacket stained, spine browned and sl. faded. Some shelf wear and a small tear to tail of rear panel. *** The UK 1st edition was issued with two different quotes on the dust jackets.This copy has the quote ‘A well-night faultless novel’ from The New Yorker on the front panel. (A later issue of the dust jacket features the quote ‘This is a wonderful novel’ from George Steiner at the Sunday Times.) The rear panel has further quotes from American publications: ‘What the American critics say about Herzog’.
