Directory
£50.00
4to. Staple-bound stiff card wrappers. Covers slightly soiled and faded. Some creasing to corners. Interior about fine. First edition/second issue, without title to front cover and staple-bound rather than glued. *** First published book of poetry by the Bard of Salford and punk legend John Cooper Clarke. For the most part, the book is made up of lyrics from his 1978 album Disguise in Love. Styled like a Telephone Directory with all the lyrics overlaid on pages listing the names Cooper or Clarke, and all of the addresses and phone numbers of these London ’01’ listings blacked-out with a pen. It also includes 22 black and white photographs by Kevin Cummins, Tom Sheehan and Paul Slattery.*** Directory was first published in 1979 by Omnibus Press. It was republished the following year in an almost identical printing to accompany JCC’s vinyl LP release Snap, Crackle & Bop. This is a copy of the second printing, which does not have the title at top right of front cover and is stapled rather than glued. No further editions exist and both editions have become very scarce.
