The book was nominated for the Man Booker Prize prior to publication. The first printing has “Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize” printed to the front cover. The scarce proof copy is the only version without this announcement. The book made the shortlist, but would eventually lose out to George Saunders’ Lincoln in the Bardo.
