£175.00
Portrait 4to. n.d. [1973] Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Edges very slightly faded. In fine, but slightly soiled dust jacket, somewhat sunned to spine. INSCRIBED and dated by author/photographer: ‘For Roy [Moseley], with pleasant memories and all good wishes from the author, Arnold – April 22, 1974’. Illustrated with almost 1500 photographs, 642 of which are in full color. With comments by Noel Coward, Igor Stravinsky, John Gielgud, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Rebecca West, Anita Loos and Orson Welles. The comments are printed on blue paper with tipped-in col. photographs. *** L. Arnold Weissberger (1907-1981) was an American theatrical lawyer who represented many prominent artists and theatrical personalities, many of whom he could call his friends. Famous Faces is a collection of his personal photographs of the rich and famous he associated with. *** Our copy is inscribed to Roy Roy Moseley who for some time was a U.K. press agent for various well-known stars of the day – among them, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins and Bette Davis. He wrote several books about (his life with) films stars, including Bette Davis: An Intimate Memoir. Weissberger and Moseley would certainly have known each other at the time. *** This is a very heavy book (almost 3KG); additional postage may be necessary.
