(The book was simultaneously published in hard cover.) *** A collection of Lesbian-themed stories by the Canadian writer Jane Vance Rule (28 March 1931 – 27 November 2007). After the publication of her first novel Desert of the Heart (1964), Rule became the spokesperson of ‘all issues surrounding homosexuality in Canada’. A she later wrote ‘I became, for the media, the only lesbian in Canada. A role I gradually and very reluctantly accepted and used to educate people as I could.’ Her subsequent work was published by Naiad Press, one of the first publishing companies dedicated to lesbian literature. At its closing it was the oldest and largest lesbian/feminist publisher in the world.
