Most of her work is published in limited edition booklets and zines that are much sought-after. Phillips’s books usually feature one model, often a young woman, whom she follows throughout her day-to-day life. The world that Phillips records in her highly evocative, fly-on-the wall photographs feels very appealing and she gives a real sense of the environment they’re in. *** “Look at me, I’m Lacy” is Phillips’s second book and features a girl called Lacy, whom she photographed between the age of twelve and fourteen-and-a-half. We see her in her hometown Tulsa, Oklahoma, hanging around her dad’s scrapyard, at the local mall and at school, riding a horse, eating candy floss. We witness her growing up and changing her looks. The book is like a photo reportage of the life of an American girl in the Mid-West. Very scarce.
