More About All About Eve
Carey, Gary
£290.00
A colloquy by Gary Carey with Joseph L. Mankievicz together with his screenplay All About Eve. Cream paper boards with brown cloth spine and green lettering. Slightly faded to tail of spine. Small bookseller’s stamp to f.f.e. Dust jacket rubbed to head of spine with a small closed tear to fold. Sunned to spine. Issued with two title pages and two half-title. INSCRIBED twice (on separate pages) to Roy Moseley: by Joseph L.Mankievicz (writer and director of All About Eve) and by Bette Davis (who starred in All About Eve as Margo Channing). Betty Davis’s inscription (to second half-title) reads: ‘Roy – you will make it! I know -. Bette Davis has crossed out her surname and replaced it with a smiley face. Mankievicz’s inscription (to first half-title) just says: ‘To Roy – Joseph L.Mankievicz’. *** Roy Moseley was for some time a U.K. press agent for various well-known stars of the day – among them, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins and Bette Davis. He became very close to Perkins and Davis, even living with the latter as a general companion and dogsbody until there was a falling-out. He wrote several somewhat disreputable books about films stars, including Bette Davis: An Intimate Memoir. Bette Davis’s inscription must be from early on in their acquaintance.
