Our Lady of the Flowers
Genet, Jean
£40.00
1st Edition
Hardcover
First UK edition. Grey cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. A near fine copy in a very good unclipped dust jacket. Some chipping to head of jacket and a few creases to laminate. Translated by Bernard Frechtman. With an introduction by Jean-Paul Sartre, calling the books ‘an epic of masturbation’ (meant as a compliment). *** Genet’s first novel, written while he was in prison, and first published in France in 1943 as a limited edition. A trade edition, revised by the author, was issued in 1951. This is the first English translation of that edition, also published in the US by Grove Press in the same year.
