In good unclipped dust jacket, creased to spine and a little worn to edges. Short closed tear to tail of upper panel and tail of spine and a few marks/scratches to laminate. Translated by Bernard Frechtman. With an introduction by Jean-Paul Sartre, calling the books ‘an epic of masturbation’ (a compliment). *** Genet’s first novel, written while he was in prison, and first published in France in 1943 as a limited edition. A trade edition, revised by the author, was issued in 1951. This is a first printing of the first English translation.
