Skrebneski (17 December 1929 – 4 April 2020) was influenced by the black and white films he saw in his youth. In his portrait photography he tries to create the same kind of atmosphere. ‘When I do a portrait, I still am thrilled when a momentary flashback of film stars in close-ups projects in my mind. They were always exciting, glamorous and big,’ he writes in the short introduction to this book. ‘Exciting, glamorous and big’ sums his work up nicely.
