In very good dust jacket with light shelf wear and some sunning to spine. *** A very good copy of this important book, which is basically a photographic record of William Yang’s life from 1974 to 1984. It consists of snapshots and portraits of his friends, photographs of the Australian gay community, Sydney night life and a controversial section called ‘Needles, Razors, Acid and Hooks’. It also includes more glamorous photographs taken at Bondi Beach and of celebrity life. It’s wide-ranging and personal and at the same time makes for a great record of life in Sydney in the late 70s/early 80s. *** ‘William Yang (b. 1943) is a pre-eminent Australian photographer known for an intensely sustained body of work that examines issues of cultural and sexual identity, and which unflinchingly documents the lives of his friends and community and his own lived experience with curiosity, sensitivity and humour. He is known in particular for his documentation of the Sydney LGBTIQ+ community from the 1970s onwards.’ (Taken from the National Portrait Gallery website)
