A very good copy of Donleavy’s controversial first novel. *** First printing pf the author’s first book, one of the great picaresque novels of the century. Maurice Girodias’s Olympia Press published The Ginger Man after it had been rejected by 35 publishers. Donleavy and Girodias eventually fell out, Donleavy only winning back his novel after a protracted legal battle; he later exacted revenge by outbidding Girodias for ownership of the Olympia Press.
