The world that Phillips records in her highly evocative, fly-on-the wall photographs feels very appealing and she gives a real sense of the environment they’re in. *** “We Smell Like Time” features a teenage girl in her hometown Boulder, Colorado. She is seen skateboarding through her neighbourhood, walking the dog, playing the guitar in her bedroom. Phillips focuses as much on the land- and cityscapes as on the model in this booklet, even featuring a few shots without the model, creating a beautiful sense of space.
