The infamous Manhattan nightclub The World operated largely outside the law from the early 1980s until 1991 when its owner was found dead on the premises. This amazing and scarce book (published in 1988) consists of photographs by Stephan Lupino of the regulars and staff of the club.
The World was an early breeding place for New York’s house scene and attracted a diverse clientele, including celebrity guests such as Keith Haring, Madonna, Brooke Shields, Prince and Frank Zappa. The photographer was a regular himself, going around with a camera strapped across his bare chest and coaxing the clubbers to shed their party clothes to have their portraits taken in the buff
